Creepypastas That Should Be Movies

Despite the unintentional horror show that was the Slender Man movie, which honestly did have some good parts. It got me thinking of what other creepypastas I'd like to see as movies if they were done right. These are my top five.

  • Anansi's Goat Man - This story is told in first person by poster Anansi in one of the /x/ board's 'innawoods' threads. It relays Anansi and his friend's horrifying experience with a shapeshifting entity that tries to infiltrate their group while camping. As someone that loves to go camping, "Goatman", "Skinwalker", Shapeshifter, whatever you want to call them stories always get under my skin (rimshot!). While they may be a bit of a fad in the creepypasta community, or were, unless I'm mistaken this was the first one to start it off. Every signifier of what would come to be in a classic internet shapeshifter story is here. The smell of burnt blood, creepy convulsing strangers that somehow get closer to you without moving, and entities that just can't quite get human speech down. They're kind of the ultimate campfire story.

  • Saya In Underworld - Honestly, I feel that a lot of the stories curated by Saya on her blog could make an awesome TV/Netflix series. Maybe the titular Saya could be a paranormal investigator. Just an idea. Either way it was super hard to pick just one thing and I'm going to cheat by linking yet another creepy story (one of her most popular ones called One Man Hide And Seek) and was my first pick. Then I thought that a possessed doll would be kind of a hokey idea....yet on the other hand we do have multiple movies of Annabelle. The story I linked is just simply called 'Never Do This'. It's less an actual story and, much like One Man Hide And Seek, is instead instructions for a ritual. In this ritual you are supposed to lay down and imagine a woman in a blood drenched kimono is descending from the ceiling. Than you have to turn off all the lights and go to sleep. This is after some chanting and weird ceiling staring of course. If you are successful she will appear in your dream. The ritual however is unclear on what exactly she will do and how this ends for the ritual doer, or even how to end it if something should go awry. Saya supposes that this is more of a curse than a ritual to see ghosts or anything like that. I think in the hands of the people that did The Grudge it could be one hell of a movie if it was more fleshed out. Maybe there is more to this ritual and Saya just never found it in her research or translations.

  • The Holder Series - In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution or halfway house in you can get yourself to. These are the opening lines to a majority of the holder stories. These stories are about a list of 538 objects of which 2000 were lost. These objects are guarded by Holders who wait with a trial of tasks for Seekers which invariably end in certain death if not followed through or done correctly. All of the objects yearn to be together again, and call out to the Seekers in some way. Some Seekers intend to destroy these objects, others want to collect them. All we know is that they must never come together, ever.

  • Psychosis - There is a man locked away in his apartment, who is possibly the last man on earth, defending his home against an AI that has killed his friends and family. Is it all in his head? Are the desperate pleadings to come outside his real friends? Or something more horrific? The story does give a concrete answer at the end. You'll have to read this very worthwhile story to find out what it is though. I think this would make a kick ass psychological horror movie.

  • The Art Of Jacob Emory - I love writing horror and fucked up stories. Sometimes I actually feel kind of bad for the things I think of to put my characters through. Jacob doesn't have that problem. Six years abroad and gifted with a talent for drawing (and a pen that brings those drawings to life), Jacob makes his money making drawings act out anything he desires for his audience on the white painted wall. But what do his animations think of all of this? While I love this short, sweet, and creepy story I actually couldn't see this as a full movie but more of an episode in an anthology series like Amazing Stories. Actually, now that I remember, Tales From The Crypt had an episode slightly like this called Korman's Kalamity.

Speaking of horror movies based on stories we love, I'm so excited that filming is beginning for Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark! I wonder what stories they'll include and if they'll do any new ones. I really hope they add in the one about the doll, Harold. Which ones would you like to see? And which creepypastas do you think would make good horror movies?
